  12. 1. WHAT IS KID GENIUS.
  13. KID GENIUS is an educational TOOL. 
  14. Teach the ABC, Numbers, Reading and Spelling using the RECOGNITION method. 
  15. Educate by auto rotating lessons for toddlers, progressing to keyboard interaction, 
  16. reading skills and spelling.  Real life and animated examples with sound, pictures 
  17. and video clips.  Kid Genius can be set to US or UK English.
  18. Kid Genius allows you to use a Mouse or the Keyboard in most areas. 
  19. Kid Genius is suitable for all ages.

  21. 2. ADD FREE WORDS AND STORY PAGES.
  22. If you like Kid Genius and wish to expand the list of words for spelling. You can visit the 
  23. Kid Genius internet site and download 20 more spelling words and 20 more Story Pages 
  24. for FREE. Download from http://www.kidgen.com

  27. 3. KID GENIUS MEMBERSHIP
  28. a) When you purchase the Kid Genius Membership, you receive a Registration code 
  29. to unlock the Lower Case, Create Words Features and an Internet Membership Password.  
  30.  
  31. b) As a Member you can download from the Kid Genius Internet site up to 960 words.
  32. Each word has Sound, Picture, Text, Video clip and is used with Kid Genius Spelling and 
  33. Flash words.
  34.  
  35. c) As a Member you can download and install 2 Stories to use with Kid Genius Reading.  
  36. Each Story has 20 Pages.     
  37.  
  38. d) As a Member you can IMPROVE the SOUND quality of Letters and Numbers in Kid 
  39. Genius by downloading a Sound Upgrade. 
  40.  
  41. e) As a Member you can download an Animated Flag of your own country for the word FLAG.
  42.  
  43. f) As a Member you can create your own Spelling words to use with Kid Genius Spelling 
  44. and Flash Words. Create words using your own pictures, voice and video clips.

  46. Your Internet Membership is for the period purchased from the date of your Membership payment.á

  48. The Kid Genius software WILL NOT expire. Words and features downloaded and installed 
  49. WILL NOT expire.

  63. TROUBLE SHOOTING
  64. Kid Genius requires Visual Basic 6 runtime files and Windows Media Player.
  65. Most windows systems already have these files. 
  66. If you get an ERROR message when you first start Kid Genius, you can download and install 
  67. the microsoft files that are required for the software from the Kid Genius help page on the 
  68. internet. http://kidgen.com/help/index.htm

  71. 5. a) To start Kid Genius Close all applications & click on ABC Kid Genius on your desktop 
  72.  
  73. OR Close all applications. From Desktop CLICK on: Start & Programs & ABC Kid Genius

  75. OR Use Windows explorer.Click on KGDEMO folder.Click on KIDGEN.EXE
  76.  
  77. Kid Genius allows you to use the KEYBOARD or MOUSE in most areas.
  78. Use the highlighted letters to move from menu to menu.
  79. Use special feature keys in yellow boxes as required.

  81. SPELLING FEATURE
  82. Levels, allows you to spell by ability. 3 is the easiest, up to 10 the hardest.á
  83. To try the levels feature in spelling, you will require more words. You can Download 20 free 
  84. wordsáto use with the Kid Genius Software from the Kid genius site http://www.kidgen.com.

  86. SPELLING LEVELS 
  87. You can choose a level to spell. From Level ALL to Level 10.
  88. Level ALL displays all available words.á
  89. Level 3 displays words which are 2 to 3 letters long.
  90. Level 4 displays words which are 4 letters long. the same applies for 5, 6, 7, 8, 9á
  91. Level 10 displays words which are 10 to 12 letters long.ááááááááááááááááááá

  93. ON - This On-Off button (next to upper case button in the spelling section) will switch theá
  94. little friend encouragement comment off or on, the little friend comment is played when theá
  95. spelling of a word is correct and a video clip starts.á
  96. Flash Words - If you have installed 20 or more words, the words will keep rotating until Esc isá
  97. pressed or clicked.á
  98.  
  99. SORTING - in the spelling section, the 'CHOOSE word ' button will show you all the words that 
  100. currently exist on your computer you can double click on a word to start spelling from that word. 
  101. You will also see optionsáto sort the words in the order of your choice, alphabetically, by length 
  102. or mixed.á
  103. When you use the Sorting, the list is changed to the order you choose.
  104. The order that you choose, is the order in which the words will be displayed in both Spelling andá
  105. Flash Words sections of the Kid Genius Software.

  107. CREATE WORDS FEATURE
  108. Create your own Spelling words to use with Kid Genius Spelling and Flash Words. 
  109. Create words using your own pictures, voice and video clips.
  110.  
  111. Non Kid Genius Members can create only 2 words for free.
  112.  
  113. The 'Create Words'  button has been placed on the Help page. (bottom left)
  114. This is done to restrict young children from accidently entering this parent area from our normal
  115.  menus. 
  116.  
  117. Requirements to create your own words.
  118.  
  119. PICTURES
  120. Digital Pictures - your pictures saved to be 320x240 pixels in size and in a JPG, GIF or BMP image formats. 
  121. (eg. happy.jpg or flower.gif or girl.bmp)
  122.  
  123. SOUND for Words 
  124. A sound card with a microphone (mic) input. 
  125. A microphone so you can Record yourself saying the word. 
  126. Recording must be saved in WAV sound file format. (eg. happy.wav or flower.wav) 
  127. Windows has a Sound Recorder. It is normally located in start menu / programs / accessories.

  129. VIDEO for WORD
  130. The video must be saved in a 320x240 size in AVI, MPG, WMV or ASF video format which is suitable for your
  131.  Windows Media Player.  (eg. happy.avi or flower.mpg)
  132. To save space on your computer we recommend you use no more than 20 seconds of video clip for each word. 
  133. When a word is created your original files ARE NOT moved or deleted from their original source.
  134. New files are created in the Kid Genius directory for each word you make.
  135. Always Make sure you have enough free hard disk space before creating words. 
  136. Words can be deleted in the spelling area of the Kid Genius software.
  137.  
  138. There are 4 stages to create a word.
  139. 1) Add picture  2) Add sound of word (3) Add video for word.  (4) type in word.
  140. Follow instruction on the screen for each of the 4 stages and add files as required for the word.
  141. Kid Genius supplies only a few templates for names, sound and video to help you practice
  142. creating  your own words.
  143.  
  144. In stage 4 you will be required to enter the spelling of the word.
  145. Each word you enter can be 2 to 12 letters long with no spaces in the middle.
  146. Type in the word required in the box and click on Create button or Retype button if you 
  147. have made a mistake. 
  148. 2 boxes will pop up to confirm creation YES and NO click on yes to create. The word is created 
  149. and the screen changes to main menu. Go to Spell Words to test the word.
  150.  
  151. You can create 2 words or names for free.
  152. To Create more words please purchase Membership.   
  153.  
  154. Except for the sample media provided by Kid Genius, When Creating words always use your 
  155. own pictures, voice and videos.
  156. Words created should be for your own personal use and should not be distributed.
  157. It is an offence to use any media without the authority of the copyright holders.

  159. UNINSTALL: 
  160. To Uninstall Kid Genius use the 'add/remove Programs' in the windows control panel.
  161. or Delete the c:\kgdemo directory

  163. 6. LEGAL
  164. This is a legal Agreement(the"Agreement") between you (either an individual or a single entity)
  165. and PHASE II Pty. Ltd. ("Kid Genius").
  166. By using this software , you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. 
  167. If you do not agree to the terms of this Agreement DO NOT USE this software.

  169. KID GENIUS SOFTWARE LICENCE
  170. 1. Kid Genius (the "Software") is owned by PHASE II Pty. Ltd. 
  171. You have no ownership or proprietary rights in or to the Software and its contents.
  172. For purposes of this section, "use" means loading the Software into RAM, 
  173. as well as installing on a hard disk or other storage device.

  175. 2. REDISTRIBUTION of START SOFTWARE:
  176. You can freely distribute ONLY this Kid Genius Start software, using the files 1kidgen.exe 
  177. or 1kidgen.zip in their original size. 
  178. The original files 1kidgen.exe and 1kidgen.zip include only one (1) Spelling word and 
  179. one (1) story page.

  181. The latest version of original files 1kidgen.exe and 1kidgen.zip can be downloaded from the 
  182. Kid Genius Web site, http://www.kidgen.com.

  184. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU LICENSED TO DISTRIBUTE ANY OTHER 
  185. KID GENIUS SPELLING WORDS or STORY PAGES, 
  186. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU LICENSED TO DISTRIBUTE ANY OTHER 
  187. PARTS, MODULES or FILES OF THE KID GENIUS SOFTWARE.

  190. You MAY Install and Use this Start software on any suitable computer at home, business 
  191. or educational facility for FREE
  192. You MAY download the 20 free Spelling words and any additional free words offered from 
  193. http://www.kidgen.com and use them only with the Kid Genius software for free.
  194. You MAY download the 20 free Story Pages from http://www.kidgen.com and use them only 
  195. with the Kid Genius Software for free.

  198. KID GENIUS MEMBERSHIP LICENCE.
  199. When you purchase the Kid Genius Membership, you receive a Registration code to unlock 
  200. the Lower Case, Create Words and a Kid Genius Internet Membership Password.  
  201. Membership purchase is required for each address location (single street address and number)
  202.  
  203. Membership gives you a licence to install and use the Kid Genius software on any 
  204. suitable computer at the registered address (single street address and number) supplied 
  205. by you at the time of membership purchase. 
  206.  
  207. KID GENIUS REGISTERED SOFTWARE AND MEMBERSHIP GRANT OF LICENCE:
  208. Kid Genius (the "Software") is owned by PHASE II Pty. Ltd.
  209. PHASE II Pty. Ltd. grants to you the limited right to install the software (the "software") on 
  210. any suitable computer at the registered address (street address and number supplied on
  211. membership purchase)

  213. 3. Under no circumstances shall you be permitted, allowed or authorized to commercially 
  214. exploit the Software or any data comprising the Software.
  215. Neither you nor anyone under your direction shall do any of the following acts(any such acts shall 
  216. be deemed void and a breach of this Agreement) with regard to the Software, or any portion thereof: 
  217. You shall not (a)rent the Software, (b)sell the Software, (c)lease or lend the Software, (d)offer the 
  218. Software on a pay-per-play basis, (e)distribute, by electronic means or otherwise, the Software for 
  219. money or any other consideration; or (f) In any other manner and through any medium whatsoever 
  220. commercially exploit the Software or use the Software for any commercial purpose, (g)modify, 
  221. disassemble, reverse engineer or decompile the Software,(h)translate the Software, (i)reproduce 
  222. the Software, (j)publicly display the Software, (k)prepare derivative works based upon the Software, 
  223. (l)distribute, by electronic means or otherwise, the Software, (m)copy the software.(n) distribute by 
  224. any means Words, Story Pages or any part of this software. (o) distribute by any means 
  225. registration codes or membership passwords.

  227. 4. You shall not use, in any manner, the logo, logos, symbols, art work, images, screen 
  228. displays or screenshots, sound effects, music, animations, video clips and other such material 
  229. contained within, generated by or relating to the Software.

  231. 5. Restrictions Apply to Third Parties. The prohibitions and restrictions described herein 
  232. apply to anyone in possession of the Software and/or Permitted Derivative Works.

  234. 6. Copyright. The Kid Genius software is owned by Phase II Pty. Ltd. and is protected 
  235. byáinternational copyright Laws.
  236. All Kid Genius materials contained within and generated by the Kid Genius software, including images, 
  237. illustrations, designs, icons, photographs, video clips, animations, animated characters and 
  238. written and otherámaterials that are part of the Kid Genius software (collectively, the "Contents")
  239. are copyrights, trademarks and/or otheráintellectual properties owned, controlled or licensed by 
  240. Phase II Pty. Ltd.

  243. 7. THIS SOFTWARE IS DISTRIBUTED "\AS IS.\" AND ALL FAULTS AND THE ENTIRE RISK AS 
  244. TO SATISFACTORY, QUALITY, PERFORMANCE, ACCURACY AND EFFORTS IS WITH YOU. 
  245. KID GENIUS AND ITS LICENSORS DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES WHETHER 
  246. EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF ANY KIND INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF 
  247. MERCHANTABILITY, NONINFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, OR FITNESS FOR 
  248. ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. KID GENIUS AND/OR ITS AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE 
  249. FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT 
  250. LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF 
  251. INFORMATION), WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING 
  252. FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS 
  253. IN THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF KID GENIUS OR ITS AFFILIATES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE 
  254. POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. KID GENIUS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES 
  255. CLAIMED BY YOU BASED ON ANY THIRD PARTY CLAIM. THIS LIMITATION OF REMEDIES 
  256. ALSO APPLIES TO ANY DEVELOPER OF SOFTWARE SUPPLIED TO KID GENIUS. KID GENIUS 
  257. AND THE DEVELOPER'S LIMITATION OF REMEDIES ARE NOT CUMULATIVE. SUCH 
  258. DEVELOPER IS AN INTENDED BENEFICIARY OF THIS SECTION.

  261. 8. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, THAT YOU 
  262. UNDERSTAND THIS AGREEMENT, AND UNDERSTAND THAT BY CONTINUING THE 
  263. INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE, BY LOADING OR RUNNING THE SOFTWARE, 
  264. OR BY PLACING OR COPYING THE SOFTWARE ONTO YOUR COMPUTER HARD DRIVE, 
  265. YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THIS AGREEMENT'S TERMS AND CONDITIONS. THIS 
  266. AGREEMENT CONSTITUTES THE ENTIRE AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND KID GENIUS 
  267. AND SUPERSEDES ANY PRIOR AGREEMENTS, REPRESENTATIONS, PROPOSALS OR 
  268. UNDERSTANDINGS, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN WITH RESPECT TO THE SUBJECT 
  269. MATTER OF THIS AGREEMENT.
